Speaking of OFWs, my father-in-law is arriving late tonight from Saudi Arabia. He’s coming home for good after spending most of the last 25 years working as an engineer for an oil company. Gie and I have been together 15 years but I’d only met his Tatay twice, I think, when he was home for very short vacations—for only 3-4 weeks at a time, if that. He wasn’t even able to attend our wedding. The company he was working for wanted him to stay on, but Tatay said he was tired, all he wanted was to come home. Tatay is only in his early 60’s—still young enough to enjoy the fruits of his labor, now that his great sacrifice is finally behind him.
